Satisfactory Academic Progress

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

To remain eligible for financial aid at WETCC, students must make satisfactory academic progress toward completing their educational program.

SAP is measured using three standards:

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Students must maintain:

  • A minimum 1.75 GPA if they have completed 1–16 credits
  • A minimum 2.0 GPA if they have completed 17 or more credits

Course Completion Rate

Students must successfully complete at least 67% of all attempted credits.

Maximum Time Frame

Students may receive financial aid for up to 150% of the published length of their program. For example, a 60-credit degree program may be funded for up to 90 attempted credits.

What Happens if I Don’t Meet SAP Requirements?

Students who do not meet SAP standards may be placed on:

Financial Aid Warning

Students receive notice of their status and may be required to meet with an advisor or Student Success Coach to develop a plan for improvement.

Financial Aid Suspension

Students who do not regain satisfactory progress after a warning period may lose eligibility for financial aid.

SOC - Sociology

Appeals and Probation

Students experiencing extenuating circumstances may appeal their suspension. Approved appeals may result in financial aid probation and an academic success plan designed to help students regain eligibility.
